We are pleased to announce that there are new management arrangements for our Forum. From now on we will be looked after by the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR). We think this will be an excellent fit as AIDR has effectively replaced the Australian Emergency Management College at Mt Macedon. Amongst its wide ranging activities, it manages the Volunteer Leadership Program, the Resilient Australia Awards, the Knowledge Hub, the National Emergency Management Handbooks and numerous conferences. The AIDR website is

Feedback for the program remains positive and continues to highlight the benefits volunteers gain from this course. Some comments from the 2018 participant cohort include:
  • ‘Without question, one of the best courses I have attended. The mix of agencies and personal experiences made for diverse and in depth discussion. This course is a must for all volunteers!’

  • ‘The program challenged my thinking and inspired me to examine my own leadership and follower styles, and evaluate how I can improve’

  • ‘Thank you for providing not only an excellent learning environment, but also the opportunity to work and network with volunteers from other agencies, which is always an invaluable experience’

  • ‘I thought this program was excellent. The facilitators were really wonderful, warm and welcoming. The content was good and thought provoking. The venue was terrific and the meals and accommodation were top notch’

  • ‘Absolutely fantastic!! I have attended a number of similar programs with various corporations during many years of staff management, but none have come close to this course for practical application of the concepts’

Leaders are innovative, entrepreneurial and future-oriented. They focus on getting the job done.

The Australian Emergency Management Volunteer Forum (AEMVF) recognises how leadership is a critical success factor in the development of the emergency management sector. The AEMVF is pleased to offer a new Online Introduction to Leadership Program for all emergency management volunteers.

This training is 45-60 minutes and can be done at your own pace. It is full of useful learnings and tools to help you discover and grow your leadership capabilities.

This workshop covers basic leadership principles and approaches and provides take away tools to help put your skills into practice.
The course workbook can be found here, and the accompanying video is here.

In June 2018 a national emergency sector volunteer conference was held in Sydney. The recommendations from the conference are set out below:
